Over the past 15 years, America’s Choice has invested more than $100 million and collaborated with leading national and international researchers and practitioners to research, develop, and field-test its school design and instructional solutions. We have taken the best elements of high-performing schools and school systems (those most successful in educating both their highest- and lowest-achieving students) and created a uniquely American solution for whole-school improvement—a coherent design that gets results.
Nations where students perform the highest on international tests, such as the TIMSS and PISA, have educational systems where standards, assessment, instruction, and professional development are closely aligned. The America’s Choice School Design help districts and schools achieve the same kind of tight alignment and strong coherence in their systems.
Research confirms that it is imperative to teach mathematics skills, problem solving, and concepts to ensure students’ future success in algebra. Our professional development and materials help math teachers integrate conceptual understanding into their programs. Our math intervention programs—developed based on our work with experts from the Shell Centre for Mathematical Education—focus on correcting student misconceptions and filling gaps so students can be successful in their regular classrooms.
We emphasize authentic reading and writing experiences because research shows that combining instruction in reading and writing strengthens skills, builds knowledge, and reinforces learning.
