Middle and High School Mathematics Supervisors

The scores are out for middle school math.  The new year approaches as Math I begins in all high schools.  Are you looking for ways to enhance teacher understanding of the Frameworks?  Do you need to expand upon the training provided by the State of Georgia so that your teachers have practice in unpacking the standards, making meaning of them, and applying that understanding to the mathematics instruction that they provide?  If so,
consider two professional development offerings provided by America’s Choice.  Each is a five-day institute spread throughout the school year to provide hands-on discussion and guidance in creating powerful, standards-based instruction that is focused on individual student needs.

These America’s Choice institutes, designed just for Georgia math teachers, will emphasize the Georgia Frameworks and student tasks as vehicles to implement the Georgia Performance Standards.

One institute is for Middle School mathematics teachers, and one is for High School 1 mathematics teachers.  Both Mathematics Institute are conducted over five days, typically with a 3-day initial session and 2 one-day follow-up sessions so that teachers have time between sessions to practice what has been learned and bring back questions about next steps.

The Mathematics Institutes for both levels focus first on helping participants develop a deeper understanding of selected concepts and how they map to advanced mathematics contained in the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). They help teachers examine and correct the way in which students develop misconceptions that become roadblocks to their further learning. Participants learn techniques for helping students develop robust understandings of key concepts to prepare them for success in mathematics. They practice using these techniques to plan lessons to embed in their instruction, working with the adopted math curriculum.
