Annette Griffin, Superintendent of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, discusses how and why Ramp-Up and Navigator were chosen for the district and the subsequent results.

          

Three of America's Choice's programs have been approved by the Texas Commission of Education for the Intensive Reading Initiative (IRI) and Intensive Math Initiative (IMI). 

Ramp-Up Literacy and Ramp-Up Mathematics are rigorous full-year curricula designed  for students from 5th to 8th grade that are two or more years behind grade level. Our Mathematics Navigator identifies students' gaps and misconceptions and addresses them in targeted 20-day modules that can be delivered during school, after school, or in summer school. Mathematics Navigator is correlated to TEKS, and includes diagnostic screeners as well as pre- and post-tests that mirror the design of TAKS.

The Texas initiatives provide significant state funding support to selected schools.  (You can learn more about the initiatives and how to apply on the Texas Education Agency website.)

Grades 2-8
Mathematics Navigator is a modular intervention program that helps students repair gaps and misconceptions—and master concepts, skills, and problem solving that are critical for success in algebra. Navigator modules are 20 days in length and augment the on-grade curriculum with 35-45 minutes of targeted instruction, delivered during, before or after school, or in summer school.

Ramp-Up Mathematics is a year-long, tier-three comprehensive acceleration system specifically designed to boost the performance of students who are two or more years below grade level in mathematics. Ramp-Up to Pre-Algebra and Ramp-Up to Algebra are designed to accelerate learning, raise test scores, break the cycle of failure, and establish a pattern of achievement.  Ramp-Up provides a replacement curriculum.
Grades 5-8
Ramp-Up Literacy is a yearlong, comprehensive acceleration system specifically designed to boost the performance of students who are two or more years below grade level in literacy.  Ramp-Up to Middle Grades Literacy and Ramp-Up to Advanced Literacy accelerate learning, raise test scores, break the cycle of failure, and establish a pattern of achievement.  Ramp-Up provides a replacement curriculum.
