- Hawaii’s low-performing schools were struggling to improve proficiency levels for students in both literacy and mathematics. The Hawaii Department of Education was determined to make progress.

- America’s Choice began working with the state’s lowest-performing schools to help them break the cycle of failure and establish a pattern of success.?
The Results
- After the multi-year support from America’s Choice, 12 alumni schools—those which continue to work with America’s Choice building on longstanding relationships—are making steady improvement.
- Over five years, reading proficiency in these elementary and middle schools increased by 23 points on the Hawaii State Assessment.
- Mathematics proficiency increased by 27.5 points on the Hawaii State Assessment.
- Three schools that had been in restructuring and are working with the intensive design of America’s Choice met their AYP goals of 2007.
